The best fabric for curtains depends on the look and function required. Natural fibres such as linen, wool and silk are ideal for their drape, texture and ability to respond beautifully to light, bringing depth and elegance to interiors.

The amount of fabric required depends on whether the fabric is plain or patterned and the window size, curtain style, and fullness desired. As a general guide, curtains typically require 2–2.5 times the width of the window to achieve a full, well‑draped appearance.

Curtain fabric widths vary depending on the design. Many fabrics, particularly sheers, are available in double width for seamless coverage. The exact width is clearly specified on each product page.

When using patterned fabric, the repeat must be factored into your calculations to ensure the design aligns correctly across panels. This usually means adding the length of the pattern repeat to every fabric drop so the pattern matches seamlessly.

Lining is a personal choice. It can add structure, protection and longevity—particularly for delicate fabrics such as silk. When lining curtains, natural materials are recommended to maintain breathability and avoid introducing synthetic elements into the home.
